What kind of degree will you pursue?

Puzzle pieces coming together to make an image of a Western student in a graduation gown and cap with back to the camera and looking up and off into the distance.Quote by Alfred Adler, "Follow your heart, but take your brain with you."

Within Social Science you will decide between the type of degree, the length of study (3-year or 4-year), the program and the module(s). There are 3 types of degrees: Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies (BMOS). Within each type of degree and length of study, there are different program and module options. Below is a break down of degree types and module options that link to the programs offering them.

4-year BA or BSc

Each degree requires 20.0 credits. The Scholar's Electives program requires 21.0 credits. The majority of your modular courses must be taken from Main Campus course sections.

Honours Bachelor of Arts (Specialization or Double Major)

Ivey Dual Degree and Advanced Entry Opportunity (AEO)

Ivey's Dual Degree offers students the opportunity to earn a degree in Honours Business Administration (HBA) while earning a second degree in another program at Western. Students will begin in the adjacent program for the first 2 years of study, after which they can apply to enter Ivey's Dual Degree program to continue on for another 3 years. The process is 5 years of study in total.

Visit Ivey's website for more information about the Dual Degree Opportunity.

Advanced Entry Opportunity (AEO)

Highschool graduates who have been admitted to Western Social Science as AEO are guaranteed a place in the Ivey HBA program in their third year as long as they meet all of Ivey's requirements to maintain their status. Students who are AEO should familiarize themselves with the AEO handbook to make sure they are meeting the requirements.

NOTES:

  1. A Minor can be added to any of the above degrees, with the exception of Ivey's programs. Minors are not identified on your degree with the exception of the 3-year Double Minor BA, in which both Minors appear on your degree.
  2. Any degree, with the exception of Ivey, may be pursued part-time. There is no deadline to complete your degree, for instance a 4-year degree may be completed over 6 years. The qualifier for the length of your 3-year and 4-year degree is the number of credits earned. A 3-year degree requires 15.0 credits, while a 4-year degree requires 20.0 credits.
  3. Western Scholars and Scholar's Electives should read about the Scholars Programs.
